Washington/Kiev: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine’s negotiators will visit the United States on Friday and Saturday, October 9-10, to end the Russia-Ukraine war and advance peace talks.
Zelensky made the announcement on October 8 in the city of Priluki in Ukraine. He enacted these laws after a deadly Russian missile attack that resulted in the loss of life.
Appeal to Trump to increase pressure on Russia
Zelensky called on US President Donald Trump to put more pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks.
Zelensky said that European countries can also help bring Russia to the negotiation table, but the US and Trump have the ability to put more pressure on Russia.
He said, “Trump and America can do more, and they should do more, because of this war, many people are losing their lives.”
Zelensky accuses Putin of escalating the war.
Zelensky accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of escalating the war. He said that if Russia is really ready for peace talks, then it should take steps only to reduce tensions on the ground.
In his opinion, merely expressing willingness to negotiate is not enough. If any party really wants to negotiate, then it should take steps only to reduce the tension by reducing noise.
Expectations regarding America’s actions
Zelensky called on Ukraine’s allies to work together to increase pressure on Russia. He said the aim should be to reduce casualties and pave the way for ending the conflict.
The Ukrainian delegation’s visit to America comes as political efforts to end the war are underway. However, full details of who the delegation will be and which American officials they will meet are not yet known.
Russia-Ukraine war outbreak
Zelensky’s statement comes at a time when fighting is going on between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine says Russian attacks continue to cause casualties and calls on its Western allies to put more pressure on Russia.
The main focus is on the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to America and the discussions taking place there. This will make it clear what future strategy America and Ukraine discuss to end the war.
