President Mocks Protesters Weight

A heckler wearing a “Release the Epstein Files” shirt was punched in the face by an apparent supporter of President Donald Trump during his rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday night. The president then mocked the protester’s weight.

What happened

Trump was criticizing Ohio’s Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown when rally attendees turned their attention to a confrontation in the crowd. Brown is challenging Republican Sen. Jon Husted after losing his own Senate seat in 2024. Video showed a rallygoer who appeared to support Trump shoving the heckler and striking her in the face as the crowd chanted “USA!” According to Fox News, the man also grabbed the woman by the hair and tried to push her face toward the ground.

Law enforcement officers then took the woman out of the venue by the collar of her jacket. The man who punched her stayed in the arena and high-fived other attendees. Police broke up the fight before escorting the woman out.

Trump’s reaction

Trump appeared to notice the disruption and accused the protester of being paid to interrupt the rally, but offered no evidence for the claim. He also appeared not to realize the heckler was a woman. “He’s a paid protester,” he said, adding that “they’re all paid” by “the lefties.” He said the protester was going “back home to Mom,” and, referring to the person’s weight, that “he’s gotta go on a diet.” He later added that it was a “very low-class protester.”

The Epstein context

The woman’s shirt came as Trump and his Justice Department face bipartisan scrutiny over the delay in releasing more documents related to the investigations into the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Second rally clash in days

Days earlier, another Trump rally turned physical in San Antonio, Texas, where a man wearing a MAGA hat grabbed a heckler by the hair and pulled him to the ground after he interrupted the president’s speech.

What is not yet known

None of the reports reviewed say whether the man who struck the woman was detained or charged, whether the woman was injured or sought medical care, or who either person was. The White House and Trump’s campaign have not commented on the incident in the reports reviewed.
